A diagnostic imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the baby, placenta, and uterus. Standard prenatal ultrasounds are performed at 10โ€“13 weeks (first-trimester dating scan) and 18โ€“22 weeks (anatomy scan). Ultrasound is used to confirm pregnancy, assess fetal growth, check the placenta, and detect abnormalities.
