An ultrasound measurement of the fluid-filled space at the back of the baby's neck between 11–14 weeks of pregnancy. Increased nuchal translucency can be a marker for chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome (trisomy 21), trisomy 18, and heart defects. It is part of first-trimester combined screening.
