Mucus Plug

A thick plug of mucus that seals the cervix during pregnancy

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A collection of mucus that forms in the cervical canal during pregnancy, sealing the uterus from bacteria and infection. As the cervix begins to soften and dilate in preparation for labor, the mucus plug is expelled โ€” this is called "losing the mucus plug" or "bloody show." It can happen days to weeks before labor begins.
