A German word meaning "middle pain" that describes the one-sided lower abdominal or pelvic pain some women feel around the time of ovulation. It is caused by the dominant follicle growing and rupturing to release the egg. It can last from a few minutes to a few hours and occurs on the side of the ovulating ovary. It can be used as a physical sign of ovulation.
