Sporadic uterine contractions that begin as early as the second trimester but are more noticeable in the third trimester. Unlike true labor contractions, Braxton Hicks are irregular, do not increase in intensity, and usually stop with movement or rest. Named after Dr. John Braxton Hicks who first described them in 1872.
