Contractions

Tightening of the uterine muscles that help push the baby out

๐Ÿ“– Definition

The rhythmic tightening and relaxing of the uterine muscles during labor. True labor contractions become progressively longer, stronger, and closer together over time. They help dilate the cervix and eventually push the baby through the birth canal. Contractions are timed from the start of one to the start of the next.
