Blighted Ovum (Anembryonic Pregnancy)

A fertilized egg that implants but the embryo never develops

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A type of early pregnancy loss in which a fertilized egg implants in the uterus and a gestational sac develops, but an embryo never forms (or stops developing very early). It is the most common cause of first-trimester miscarriage. hCG levels may still rise initially. Typically discovered at the first ultrasound when a gestational sac is found without a yolk sac or embryo.
