Anemia in Pregnancy

Low hemoglobin levels during pregnancy, most commonly iron-deficiency anemia

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A condition in which the blood has too few healthy red blood cells, reducing oxygen delivery to the baby and mother. Iron-deficiency anemia is the most common type in pregnancy, as iron requirements nearly double. Symptoms include fatigue, paleness, and shortness of breath. Treated with iron supplements and dietary changes. Routine blood tests screen for it at the first prenatal visit and again at 28 weeks.
