๐ Definition
An omega-3 fatty acid that is a major structural component of the brain, retina, and nervous system. DHA is critical for fetal brain and eye development, particularly in the third trimester and after birth. Recommendations vary but most guidelines suggest 200โ300 mg/day during pregnancy. Found naturally in fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel), algae, and DHA-enriched eggs. Many prenatal vitamins include DHA.
