Progesterone

The hormone produced after ovulation that maintains pregnancy in early weeks

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A steroid hormone produced primarily by the corpus luteum after ovulation, and later by the placenta during pregnancy. Progesterone thickens the uterine lining to support implantation, suppresses further ovulation, and is essential for maintaining early pregnancy. Progesterone levels are tested to confirm ovulation has occurred. Low progesterone in early pregnancy may require supplementation.
