External Cephalic Version (ECV)

A procedure to manually turn a breech baby head-down before labor

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A procedure performed typically after 36 weeks in which a provider uses firm, guided pressure on the mother's abdomen to manually turn a breech or transverse baby to a head-down (cephalic) position. Performed in a hospital setting with fetal monitoring. ECV succeeds in about 50โ€“60% of cases and can help avoid a planned C-section.
