Endometrium

The lining of the uterus that thickens each cycle and sheds as menstruation

๐Ÿ“– Definition

The inner lining of the uterus, which thickens each cycle under the influence of estrogen and progesterone to prepare for possible implantation of a fertilized egg. If implantation does not occur, the lining sheds as menstruation. A thin endometrium can impair implantation; conditions like endometriosis involve endometrial-like tissue growing outside the uterus.
