Skin-to-Skin Contact (Kangaroo Care)

Placing the newborn directly on the parent's bare chest after birth

๐Ÿ“– Definition

The practice of placing a newborn directly on the mother's (or partner's) bare chest immediately after birth and in the days following. Skin-to-skin contact stabilizes newborn temperature, heart rate, and blood sugar; supports breastfeeding by triggering milk letdown and colostrum release; reduces newborn crying; and promotes bonding. WHO recommends immediate and extended skin-to-skin for all healthy newborns.
