Pelvic Floor

The muscles supporting the bladder, bowel, and uterus โ€” key to recovery after birth

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that form the base of the pelvis and support the bladder, bowel, uterus, and vagina. Pregnancy and vaginal delivery can weaken or injure pelvic floor muscles, leading to urinary leakage, pelvic organ prolapse, or pain. Pelvic floor physical therapy is highly effective for recovery. Kegel exercises can help prevent and treat mild dysfunction.
