Melasma (Chloasma)

Dark patches on the face caused by increased pigmentation during pregnancy

๐Ÿ“– Definition

A common skin condition causing brown or grayish patches, typically on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and upper lip. During pregnancy, elevated estrogen and progesterone stimulate melanin production, causing these patches โ€” often called the "mask of pregnancy" (chloasma gravidarum). Patches often fade after delivery but may persist or worsen with sun exposure. SPF 50+ sunscreen is the primary prevention.
