A life-threatening obstetric complication, an acronym for Hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells), Elevated Liver enzymes, and Low Platelet count. HELLP is considered a variant of severe preeclampsia and requires immediate delivery. Symptoms include severe upper right abdominal pain, nausea, and malaise. It can develop rapidly and is a medical emergency.
