✅ Essential Safety Checklist

Firm Mattress

The mattress should be firm and fit the crib tightly with no gaps.

No Loose Bedding

No pillows, blankets, bumpers, or stuffed animals in the sleep area.

Slat Spacing

Slats should be no more than 2-3/8 inches apart (about the width of a soda can).

No Drop-Sides

Drop-side cribs are banned in the U.S. due to safety risks.

Proper Assembly

Ensure all bolts and screws are tight and no parts are missing.

  • Used cribs older than 10 years (may not meet current standards)
  • Hand-me-down mattresses (may be too soft or harbor bacteria)
  • Crib bumpers (increase risk of suffocation and SIDS)
