Starting a family may not come very easy for some couples. When the time comes and you decide to start or grow your family, it can be frustrating if you do not become pregnant right away. There are several factors that can contribute to why you are not getting pregnant.

Stress can be the number one cause for a lot of issues today. Stress can definitely play a role when becoming pregnant. In today’s society, there are a lot of pressures on women to be the homemaker, work full time, be healthy, and let’s just face it, women believe they need to do it all.

All these stresses can cause your adrenal system to not function properly.  When your adrenal system is not functioning properly, it is much harder for you to conceive.

There is several things women can do to lower stress levels including meditation, therapy, exercising, a getaway, and massages. There are a lot of options to decrease stress. One way to decrease stress may not be the best way for another woman. Figure out what is best for you and coordinate it into your routine.

2. Eating Habits

Doesn’t it seem like we are always discussing eating habits for every issue in our life? Eating habits always seem to be the culprit of every problem we are having. It is true, if you are not eating healthy, this may be the reason why you are not pregnant yet.

If you are having troubles conceiving, take a look at your diet. Make sure you are eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, and folic acid. Make a daily smoothie including lots of spinach and berries. Include salmon in your weekly meal planning. Not only is it a great source of protein, but also contains omega-3 fatty acids. Make sure you find a great folic acid supplement and start taking it daily, now.

Yes, when you are already stressed about getting pregnant all you want to do is binge on cookies, Mac & cheese, and bread. But, if you tweak your eating habits now, your body will be better prepared to become pregnant and carry a healthy baby.

3. Not Enough Sleep

This one kind of falls hand-in-hand with stress. If you are stressed you are not getting enough sleep and if you are not getting enough sleep, your body is not functioning at 100%. When you are not getting enough sleep, your body is literally compensating and this can make it extremely difficult to become pregnant.

When you sleep, hormones are released into your body to help fight off infections, repair damaged cells and tissues, and more. Get good sleep and you will feel much better all around!

4. Irregular Menstrual Cycles

When trying to conceive, it is crucial to keep track of your menstrual cycle.  This is a common reason why most women do not become pregnant right away. Many women are not aware that they are having an irregular cycle.

There are several different applications available to help you keep track of your ovulation, symptoms, bleeding, and more. Once you can get a grasp on how your menstrual cycle is, each month you can discuss this with your doctor. There are drugs available, to help normalize your menstrual cycle and increase the chances of you becoming pregnant.

5. It’s Your Partner

You may not even be the reason why you are not becoming pregnant! After you and your partner have tried getting pregnant for a period of time, not only should you get checked out, but your partner should also. Do not wait until later to have him check, get all the facts together.

Your partner could have several things that may be causing the issues including low sperm motility, hormones, sperm production problems, and more.

6. Alcohol and Tobacco

We all know tobacco is not good for our bodies and too much alcohol can cause issues also. If you are having problems becoming pregnant, stop smoking. If you do not smoke, but drink alcohol regularly, cut back or stop completely.

Both of these substances can affect your reproductive systems and hormones and both of these systems need to be working top notch for you to become pregnant! Moderation is key when drinking, but if you already drink moderately, possibly cutting out all alcohol until after the birth would be ideal.

7. Thyroid Problem

You may have a thyroid problem and have no idea! When you first meet with your doctor, it is common for them to test for this. If your thyroid is too low then you may not be ovulating like you should. This also falls hand in hand with tracking your menstrual cycle. A thyroid problem may come to you and your doctor’s attention after your realize your ovulation is not normal. There are medications to help assist your thyroid to function properly.

8. Use of Lubricants

This is a common reason that may not come into the minds of couples trying to conceive. Lubricants can affect sperm motility so those little guys are not making it to where they need to be in time! If you need to use a lubricant there are several alternatives on the market. Talk to your doctor for different options.

It can be hard and discouraging for couples, if they have been trying to conceive for months or even years. The most important thing to do is to find a good doctor that is knowledgeable in infertility. It is also extremely important you are honest and feel comfortable with your doctor. More than likely, changes will need to be made in you and your partner’s life, but in the end, it will be worth it!
