“I did everything to get food. I have stolen for food, I have jumped in huge garbage bins with maggots for food. I have befriended people in the neighborhood, who I knew had mothers who cooked three meals a day for food, and I sacrificed a childhood for food and grew up in immense shame.”

The mother of two said in an interview, “My biggest fear was that my kids would never be happy again, that their happiness would have been wiped away in that same instant we lost Dave. Some people had been through loss and been through real adversity who told me it gets better. And I didn’t believe them.”

But as time passed by, she felt hope again, and wrote a book giving advice on how to handle grief. Her book is titled, “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy.”
